Typeface Design | with Kerstin Karrer
Brief
Design a complete typeface together with a fellow student.
My role: lowercase. Kerstin Karrer: uppercase.
About
Kronblad is a typeface defined by character, refinement, and individuality. It balances tradition with a quiet sense of play — rooted in the familiar, but not bound by it.
Process
Sometimes we long for structure. Other times, for something unexpected. Kronblad lives in this space in-between. Its high x-height gives the font a light, upright posture. Subtle, recurring details — like softly flaring serifs and rightward tails — bring cohesion and identity.
To preserve clarity and rhythm, the stem is reduced to its essentials, while optical corrections like the overshoot for round letters (8 px for lowercase, 10 px for uppercase) enhance balance and readability.
Kronblad isn’t just a typeface. It’s an invitation to reimagine serif typography — elegant, restrained, and quietly confident.
